Where are your visitors? They may still be accessing your Web site using their Mac or PC Web browsers–or they might be connecting from their phone, tablet, television or even their refrigerator. In this discussion, Aaron Greenlee will discuss API designs (RESTful /non-RESTful), considerations for bootstrapping your Web Page on desktop/mobile devices and ultimately demonstrate different techniques that you can use to implement your own API. The discussion will touch on security, performance under stress maintenance. The concepts reviewed will be applicable to any framework or programming language; however, the discussion will specifically demonstrate how ColdFusion 9.0, ORM and the ColdBox framework were leveraged to create a powerful API that can be consumed by any device.

ColdFusion MeetUp: OAuth: demystified (hopefully), with Matt Gifford (rescheduled)

Who’s hosting? Charlie Arehart

Our 12pm (US ET) talk on Thursday Jun 9 will be “OAuth: demystified (hopefully)”, with Matt Gifford. We had technical difficulties during his April 14 presentation, so this is a rescheduling.

TOPIC DESCRIPTION: (provided by the speaker)

Now widely used amongst many global providers and rapidly replacing basic or generic authentication protocols, it is truly becoming the standard means of access authentication.

So why is it still as confusing as hell?

Join Matt Gifford, aka coldfumonkeh, as we look at the structure of OAuth requests, the variety of authentication ‘flavours’ available to use, and how to implement and consume access-restricted services through the protocol in a bid to better understand exactly what OAuth is.
