Topic will cover some of the basics of AIR development with HTML. I’ll talk about using Aptana to start your projects and then discuss how to employ jQuery and work with ColdFusion services for your back end.

A long time ColdFusion user, Raymond has worked on numerous ColdFusion books including the ColdFusion Web Application Construction Kit and has contributed to the Fusion Authority Quarterly Update and the ColdFusion Developers Journal. He also presents at conferences and contributes to online webzines. He founded many community web sites including CFLib.org, ColdFusionPortal.org, ColdFusionCookbook.org and is the author of open source applications, including the popular BlogCFC (www.blogcfc.com) blogging application. Raymond is an Adobe Community Professional. He is the happily married proud father of three kids and is somewhat of a Star Wars nut. From the initial creation of the project, we will cover the core foundations of building your desktop application using Flex, how to incorporate your existing ColdFusion skills and back-end components to power your application, and how to keep your users happy by writing the auto-update feature to constantly give them the best of the best. Ideal for anyone new to AIR or Flex, and a must for anyone who wants to take their development skills to the next level and create feature-rich desktop applications.
The bane of all mobile app developers is the need to rewrite the same app over and over again for different devices: the iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Palm Pre, Nokia, Windows Mobile. Adobe is positioning its Flash platform (which includes the Flash player, AIR, developer tools, and media servers) as the write-once, deploy-anywhere solution for both the mobile Web and apps. Today at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, it will announce plans to bring Adobe AIR to mobile devices, starting with Android and Blackberry phones.

The Adobe AIR 1.5.3 runtime and SDK are now available for download. This release includes an updated version of Flash Player, security updates and several bug fixes. The developer release notes include critical information that all developers building AIR applications should be sure to read including important information related to certificate renewals (see earlier blog post) as well as bug fixes.
