Discovery Forcing takeover of DeadliestCatchTV.Com
Unfortunately after providing recap and news of the series Deadliest Catch, lawyers from Discovery Channel have demanded I remove all videos and give them the domain name deadliestcatchtv.com as of August 11, 2010. Their demands were first based on the domain name containing the term deadliest catch which they have trademarked. When I registered the domain back in June 2007, I did not believe this would be an issue since they did not even own deadliestcatch.com. In fact that domain is still not owned by them and was registered by an individual in Hong Kong. There are also countless other similar domains that hold fan sites of the show that apparently are not being policed by Discovery.
What I don’t understand is if it is illegal to publish Discovery’s videos, why do them publish on Youtube with the embed code on it. According to Youtube rules, if you publish it, you give permission to be retrieved by any person or published on any website with the “embed code”, otherwise you have to make it private.
Well, anyway, I’m not watching Discovery’s Deadliest Catch anymore ! Boycote !!!
